Voices From the Field

Celebrating Educator Inquiry and Impact

Each year, graduate students who complete the LIfTS four-course sequence and earn the Trauma and Learning Certificate step forward to share their learning. These educators have engaged deeply with what it means to create safe, supportive, and trauma-sensitive environments—where equity, connection, and possibility are woven into the fabric of teaching and learning.

From the Field Presentations

  • Student Perceptions of Safety at School and Strategies for a Felt Sense of Safety

This presentation stems from an ongoing study that aims to better understand how students define and experience a sense of safety at school, particularly in relation to physical, relational, emotional, and pedagogical factors…

  • Strategies From the Field: The Weymouth School District’s Journey Toward Trauma-Sensitive Practices

How does a school district become safe, supportive, and trauma-sensitive?  Come hear from the superintendent, leadership, and teachers of Weymouth Public Schools about their grassroots efforts in collective care.

  • Voices from the Field: Weymouth High School | Path to a Trauma Lens, Cape Elizabeth Schools | Mindfulness in the Classroom, Cape Elizabeth Schools | The Impacts of Workplace Stress on Staff Wellbeing

Featuring presentations conducted by practitioners for practitioners. We will highlight three initiatives implemented by educators intending to develop trauma-sensitive, safe, and supportive environments within their schools. These inquiries help illustrate how essential reflective practice is to trauma-sensitivity.

From Reflection to Research

In their final Action Research Seminar, students collaborate to design and conduct research that explores how trauma-sensitive practices can transform classrooms, schools, and learning communities. Each fall, we highlight selected projects at a community convening, honoring outstanding teams whose work makes a measurable impact. Their stories—shared here—offer insight, inspiration, and practical strategies for educators everywhere.
